This course will provide you with the opportunity to learn about seven religious traditions: Hinduism, Sikhism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism, and Shinto. You will learn to celebrate the differences that exist between religious expressions while also recognizing some commonalities by focusing on the three central themes of Anthropology (understanding of Humanity), Theology (understanding of the Divine), and Sacred Texts (understanding and use of sacred writings). The format of the course will be an in class lecture followed by an on-site visit to practitioner of these traditions within the London area.
At the completion of this course students will be able to:
- Celebrate the differences that exist between religious expressions while also recognizing some commonalities
- Understand the major themes of various religions in our pluralistic world
- Cultivate a language that nurtures and enhances inter-faith dialogue
This course can be used as a credit for those individuals who have been enrolled, and already completed courses, in the Huron University College Lay Certificate.
This is an interactive course, which includes lectures, discussion and on-site visits.
The course will be an informal learning environment where we can all share our experiences and together cultivate a common language whereby religion in general as well as particular religions can be discussed in a respectful and honest forum.
