Experience through work integrated learning

Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR)

Fast track your career advancement and complete a one-year diploma in only 8 months.

Do you have 2 or more years of industry experience in Human Resources or Occupational Health and Safety Management? Applicants who are currently working in these fields are eligible to receive advanced standing and course credit for their previous work experience to complete their post-degree diploma in 8 months instead of 12.

What does it mean for you?

Advanced standing enables a qualified learner to receive an exemption from the 4 month practicum component of the Human Resources or Occupational Health and Safety Management diplomas, and still receive acknowledgement of completion on their transcript. Applicants must have a minimum of 2 years of industry experience prior to the scheduled start of the practicum term in the year they are registered in the program. Successful applicants will complete their diploma in 8 months.

How it Works

Applying for PLAR

Apply for PLAR as part of your program application. In the education section of your HR or OHSM program application, check off that you would like to be considered for PLAR and upload a copy of your Resume/CV.

Once Accepted

Your PLAR application is assessed at the same time as your program application. If you are accepted to the program and to PLAR, you will be notified in your program acceptance letter. You will be asked to pay the $100 PLAR assessment fee at that time.

Things to Note

An approved PLAR assessment cannot be used in conjunction with a course equivalency assessment. A student can receive a maximum advanced standing of 2.5 credits (which is equal to the Practicum).
