WESTERN DIGITAL BADGES

What is a Western Digital Badge?

A digital badge is an industry-recognizable visual representation of a digital credential earned by completing a micro-credential. Badges are embedded with data that verifies a learner's skills and achievements— and they are meant to be shared so that you can add them to your resumé, LinkedIn profile or portfolio.

A Western Digital Badge is approved and accredited by Western University. Your learning is recognized by employers locally, across Canada and worldwide. Western University has partnered with MyCreds™ to issue our Digital Badges.

What is MyCreds™

MyCreds™ is a secure online service that allows organizations to issue secure digital records online so that individuals can access and share their transcripts, academic documents, badges, credentials and micro-credentials from their post-secondary studies in Canada.

Western University has partnered with MyCreds™ to provide learners access to a secure digital wallet where they can view and share their official, verified micro-credentials on a 24/7 basis – anytime, anywhere.

Why do I need to set up a MyCreds™ account?

Creating a MyCreds™ account will give you access to a secure, password-protected learner credential wallet to allow you to share your digital badges.

When will I receive my badge?

Badges are awarded once you complete your micro-credential.  You will receive an email from MyCreds™ when your badge is ready to be claimed. This email is sent within two weeks of completing your micro-credential.

Do I get a badge for every course I take at Western Continuing Studies?

You will earn a Western digital badge when you complete a micro-credential. Micro-credentials at Western Continuing Studies are courses developed with industry partners alongside a robust quality assurance process to ensure they surpass academic and industry standards.

To guarantee the most in-demand and relevant capabilities are delivered, micro-credentials focus on the knowledge and skills employers need in a format that takes less time to complete. Micro-credentials allow the flexibility of taking one course or stacking multiple courses toward an accelerated or professional certificate.

Can I get a badge for a course I took before January 2023?

Our courses have been redesigned and undergone a senate review/approval process to ensure they meet Western’s new micro-credential and badge requirements. Courses completed before the approval process are not eligible for a Western badge.
