The criminal justice system often exacerbates trauma and risk associated with Intimate Partner Violence (IPV). This course supports service providers in advocating for survivors through sharing knowledge of legal frameworks and procedures that they can use to promote TVI responses from the criminal justice system that are sensitive to the risk of lethal IPV.   

What You Will Learn

  • Describe the legal options available to survivors whose partners have been arrested   
  • Understand ways that a service provider might advocate within the criminal justice system for a more appropriate response to Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) risk   
  • Create an outline of specific strategies that can be used to respond to survivors in their community   
  • Apply this knowledge by developing support and advocacy plans in case examples

What to Expect

This is an interactive course; you will engage online with your class and instructor through our online learning management system. Plan to log into your course regularly throughout the week. Students will have the opportunity to practice the skills they have learned in an interview with a simulated client.

Completion Requirements

This is a graded course where a complete or incomplete will be issued. Evaluation will be based on participation and completion of course activities. Attendance in the live Zoom sessions are mandatory.
