Paul Davenport, President Emeritus of Western University (1994-2009) and now retired to Tours, France, has been leading students, alumni, and friends each year since 2007 through the French countryside, combining sightseeing and wonderful food and wine with conversations about French life and history. Join him in class as he brings his trips to life with images, stories and selections from great films and literature, with works by and inspired by Alexander Dumas (Queen Margot, The Three Musketeers), Molière (The Bourgeois Gentleman), and Balzac (Cousin Betty). We’ll visit the great châteaux in the Loire Valley east of Tours, and the small towns and vineyards from Tours to Blois. Enjoy fascinating stories, readings and observations about the region from the 15th century to the present day.
