In partnership with the Faculty of Education, the five new Advanced Certificates will help teachers further develop their skills in a number of specialized educational fields such as eLearning, Leadership, Teaching Students with Exceptionalities, Early Childhood Education and Teaching English as a Second Language. Based on the Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate (CPED) model, the certificate programs will:

  • Offer an introduction to theoretical models, philosophical foundations, issues, and approaches
  • Offer a survey of appropriate content knowledge and practices, including program development, planning, implementation, assessment, classroom management, and leadership
  • Begin to identify and analyze problems of practice and use multiple frames to develop meaningful responses
  • Draw on and develop a critically reflective professional knowledge base that integrates research and practical knowledge, linking theory with inquiry and reflective practice
  • Provide opportunities to develop and demonstrate communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and leadership skills to work with individuals and partners in learning
  • Support the professional learning of educators in constructing and applying knowledge in ways that make a positive difference in the lives of individuals, families, organizations, and communities
