Back-to-School Learning Tips

To help you balance work, life and learning

1. Get organized early

At the start of your course, review the learning outcomes and course outline. Take a few minutes to click through the course site so you know where to find materials, submit work, and connect with your instructor. A little prep now saves you stress later.

2. Create a study routine that works for you

Morning coffee at the kitchen table, a lunch break in the library, or an evening session at a café, find your best time and place, then block it in your calendar. Treat it like an appointment you can’t miss.

3. Limit distractions (but give yourself breaks)

Keep your phone and notifications out of sight when you’re studying. Use them as a reward, after an hour of focus, stretch your legs, grab a drink, and check your messages guilt-free.

4. Connect with others

Your classmates are also busy professionals with valuable experience. Ask questions, share tips, and support one another. You might gain just as much from your peers as you do from the course content.

5. Ask for help right away

If you’re unsure about an assignment, activity, or concept, reach out to your instructor. Chances are, others have the same question. You’ll save time and avoid frustration by speaking up early.

6. Use the 25–5 Rule (Pomodoro Technique)

Study or work in focused 25-minute bursts, then take a 5-minute break. This keeps your energy up, prevents burnout, and makes it easier to squeeze in study time between other commitments.

7. Put it into practice

Try using what you’ve learned as soon as you can. Whether it’s a new tool, technique, or idea, applying it right away helps it stick and shows you the real-world value of your efforts.
