Time for Change: Ready or Not?

For many people, the middle of summer is a time to reflect and recharge. The benefits of taking time to switch off and relax are multiple and diverse. Getting away to the cottage, visiting with family and friends, swimming, hiking, reading, doing jigsaw puzzles and watching the sun go down, the change of pace not only contributes to our mental and physical well-being, but also nurtures creativity and innovation. In a recent article, “Being Busy is Killing Our Ability to Think Creatively”, the authors cite how many of us are struggling with “an addiction to busyness.” They explain, “Engaging creatively requires hitting the reset button, which means carving space in your day for lying around, meditating, or staring off into nothing.”

For some of us, however, the time off leads to another kind of reflection that we are ready to make a change. Symptoms may range from optimism and excitement about a golden opportunity to general distraction, and even dread about returning to work and the routine. Recognizing these feelings is the first step in beginning a new approach or direction.

Whether the change is a variation on your working style, taking on more responsibility, or a career change, learning something new is one of the best ways to not only improve your present reality, but transform your entire future as well.
