This course provides foundational skills for responding to intimate partner violence (IPV). The focus is on translating systemic understandings of IPV into practice that centres diverse and intersecting identities and cultures, actively decolonizes practice, and is trauma and violence-informed. Skills for recognizing and amplifying strengths in response to violence are modelled and practiced.

What You Will Learn

  • Understand the 3Rs of IPV with basic skills to intervene and make referrals
  • Learn how to develop your individual practice to respond using trauma -and violence- informed principles
  • Be introduced to a whole community response as a model for social change to prevent IPV
  • Understand the composition of the IPV sector as a system
  • Appreciate that IPV is not just an individual issue but a societal issue and why that matters to your practice
  • Be prepared for other courses in the Centre for Research & Education on Violence Against Women & Children (CREVAWC) series
