BURSARIES AND AWARDS

Through the generosity of donors, individual and corporate, Western Continuing Studies offers several bursaries and awards to students enrolled in our programs. These funds can be used to cover educational expenses and, in some cases, living expenses and books and supplies.

All Diploma Programs

University of Western Ontario Bursary

Value: Up to $5,000 
Available: Depending on funds available. Deadline: N/A

Available to students enrolled in a Diploma program at Western Continuing Studies who are not eligible for other forms of financial assistance.  Students must have attended Western for at least two years prior to enrolling in the Western Continuing Studies Program. 

Western Continuing Studies students who are Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents in certain programs may be eligible for bursary consideration. To access the application, students can log into their Student Center account and choose the “Financial Assistance” option in the Student Services box to access the application.

Soroptimist Live Your Dream: Education and Training Awards for Women

Value: $1,000
Available: TBD
Deadline: November 15

Available to women who are the primary financial supporters of their families.  Recipients seek to improve their lives by gaining additional training or education, but do not have the resources to do so.

Corporate, Employers, Organizations

Canada-Ontario Job Grant

Value: $10,000 per trainee (up to $15,000 in some cases)

The Ontario Job Grant provides government funding to help employers invest in skills training for their employees. It supports both new hires and existing staff, helping organizations build the skills they need to adapt and grow.

Funding is based on employer size:

• Employers with 100 or more employees may receive up to 50% of eligible training costs
• Employers with fewer than 100 employees may receive up to five-sixths of eligible training costs
• In some cases, small employers hiring previously unemployed individuals may be eligible for up to 100% of training costs, to a maximum of $15,000 per trainee

Training must be delivered by an eligible third-party training provider, such as Western Continuing Studies, and must align with approved program requirements.

Employers are responsible for submitting applications directly through the Government of Ontario and confirming eligibility.

Marketing

Ad Standards Scholarship

Value: $1,500
Available: 2
Deadline: February 28

Available to a full-time post-secondary student enrolled in an undergraduate advertising or marketing program at a Canadian university or college. One scholarship is open to students attending a primarily English post-secondary institution. Successful applicants display a commitment to volunteerism, a record of academic excellence, and an interest in pursuing a career in advertising or marketing.

Occupational Health and Safety Management

Dick Martin Scholarship Award

Value: $3,000
Available: 1
Deadline: January 31

Available to any student enrolled, either full-time or part-time, in an occupational health and safety related course or program leading to an occupational health and safety certificate, diploma or degree at an accredited college or university in Canada. Programs include mine safety, occupational or industrial health and safety, industrial hygiene, safety management or other related safety degree program.

The Tim Hickman Memorial Health and Safety Scholarship

Value: $3,000
Available: 1
Deadline: February 28

Open to all persons currently enrolled full time in an occupational and or public health and safety-related program at a college or university. This may include occupational safety/health/hygiene, occupational/physical therapy, nursing, medicine, emergency services or other related fields.  About Tim Hickman.

Pedorthics

Howard Feigel Memorial Award

Deadline: September 30th  

Awarded to a full-time student in the Diploma in Pedorthics based on academic achievement.

The Pedorthic Practicum Bursary

Value: $2000
Available: Up to 5
Deadline: December 1st  

Awarded to deserving students who are enrolled in the Diploma in Pedorthics program at Western Continuing Studies, and are relocating to participate in one of three practicums. This bursary is intended to provide financial support for students who would like to gain Pedorthic experience in another city or province.
