  • Course fees are not eligible if you received a grant, reimbursement, benefit, or allowance for the program from a person whom you deal with at arm's length. Income Tax Receipt Information

Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) requires all designated educational institutions in Canada to issue a T2202, Tuition and Enrollment Certificate for qualifying students enrolled in a specified educational program.

Non-Credit Programs and Courses (Professional Certificate)

Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) requires designated educational institutions to issue a T2202 (Tuition and Enrollment Certificate) only for students enrolled in a qualifying specified educational program.

Who Qualifies

To be eligible, a student must:

  • Be enrolled in a specified educational program
  • Be 16 years of age or older
  • Spend at least 12 instructional hours per calendar month (January 1 to January 31, etc.)
  • Have paid tuition fees of $100 or more
  • Have personally paid the tuition fees (if your employer paid or reimbursed you, you are not eligible to claim the T2202)

How Course Eligibility Is Determined

For non-credit course, eligibility is assessed based on CRA specified educational program requirements.

To qualify in any given calendar month:

  • Your course(s) within the program must total at least 12 instructional hours between the first and last day of that same month, and
  • The course must run at least three consecutive weeks within that calendar month.

Because many of our professional courses run four weeks at three hours per week and may begin or end mid-month, eligibility depends on how the course falls within a calendar month. Some start dates meet the CRA’s monthly requirement, while others do not.

This means that even within the same certificate program, some courses may qualify for a T2202 and others may not.

Course eligibility is determined strictly in accordance with CRA guidelines, which are subject to change.

*CRA requires educational institutions to collect and submit Social Insurance Numbers (SIN) on the T2202. Students are required to update their myWCS student profile with their SIN in order to obtain a T2202 form.

Credit Programs

A T2202 form (Tuition and Education Amounts Certificate) will be issued by the University for students formally admitted to a post degree program credit program. Students will be notified via email when the forms are available to print from your Student Centre account.
