A Career in Machine Learning

by Rayan Aljied

Learning how to program or getting started with a new language isn't easy. That's why Western Continuing Studies has partnered with Robogarden inc. to launch a new Python for Machine Learning course to overcome that challenge.

Robogarden, founded in 2016, is a Calgary-based educational technology software developer that uses a game-based approach to teach data science and coding skills to students of all ages. With Python being the most popular programming language, the new Python for Machine Learning course is an excellent choice if you're interested in learning how to code or advancing your current technology career with an additional programming skillset.

Python for Machine Learning

According to EMSI Labour Marketing Analytics data, 18% of employers require Python as a skill, and Python remains the highest-paying programming language. In addition, Python's readability makes learning to code more accessible; its familiarity with the English language allows for a smoother transition.

Machine Learning is impacting every field of computing. This new online course focuses on preparing you to apply machine learning concepts in real-time. The course period is six weeks, concluding with the opportunity to test, try, and implement a freelance coding assignment.

Virtual learning

Alongside Python for Machine Learning, to meet the requirements of the growing digital economy in Canada, Western Continuing Studies has developed multiple digital programs this year. Launched in February of 2021 was Full Stack Development, an intensive online program that aimed to prepare working professionals to fill open technology-focused positions or launch an entrepreneurial career.

Learn by playing

The game-based approach uses game elements to teach specific skills and allows you to learn, engage and interact in a fun and dynamic way.

“We build courses that prioritize learner engagement. It’s about keeping people coming back day after day,” explains RoboGarden business development manager and Western University alumni, Stephen Mackenzie, BA ‘00.

The Digital Economy

The new Python for Machine Learning course's online, self-paced design meets the needs of busy working professionals or recent graduates looking for flexible, time-based learning opportunities that translate into a career.

Digital literacy has become essential in today's economy. The uptake in digital skills is why this course is another part of Continuing Studies focused digital initiative to prepare professionals to be on the cutting edge of the digital economy.
