BURSARIES AND AWARDS

 

Through the generosity of donors, individual and corporate, Western Continuing Studies offers several bursaries and awards to students enrolled in our programs. These funds can be used to cover educational expenses and, in some cases, living expenses and books and supplies.

All Diploma Programs

University of Western Ontario Bursary

Value: Up to $5,000 
Available: Depending on funds available. Deadline: N/A

Available to students enrolled in a Diploma program at Western Continuing Studies who are not eligible for other forms of financial assistance.  Students must have attended Western for at least two years prior to enrolling in the Western Continuing Studies Program. 

Western Continuing Studies students who are Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents in certain programs may be eligible for bursary consideration. To access the application, students can log into their Student Center account and choose the “Financial Assistance” option in the Student Services box to access the application.

 

Soroptimist Live Your Dream: Education and Training Awards for Women

Value: $1,000
Available: TBD
Deadline: November 15

Available to women who are the primary financial supporters of their families.  Recipients seek to improve their lives by gaining additional training or education, but do not have the resources to do so.

 

Corporate, Employers, Organizations

Canada-Ontario Job Grant

Value: Up to $10,000

The Canada-Ontario Job Grant  provides up to $10,000 in government support per person for training costs. The grant requires employers to contribute one-third of the total costs and training must be delivered by an eligible, third-party training provider such as Western Continuing Studies.

 

French Immersion

Western University French Immersion Bursary

Value: $1600
Available: 1

Awarded annually to students who demonstrate financial need and are registered in a credit course at Western's French Immersion School. Students in receipt of an Explore Bursary are not eligible to apply.

Western University French Immersion OSOTF Bursary

Value: $1200 (each)
Available: 2

Awarded annually to students who demonstrate financial need and are registered in a credit course at Western's French Immersion School. Students in receipt of an Explore Bursary are not eligible to apply. Recipients must meet Ontario residency requirements.

Dr. W. Sherwood Fox Award

Value: $1900
Available: 1

Awarded annually to a student in any year of any program attending the spring or summer session at Trois Pistoles based on academic achievement in French courses and demonstrated financial need.

Marketing

Ad Standards Scholarship

Value: $1,500
Available: 2
Deadline: February 28

Available to a full-time post-secondary student enrolled in an undergraduate advertising or marketing program at a Canadian university or college. One scholarship is open to students attending a primarily English post-secondary institution and one is open to students attending a primarily French post-secondary institution. Successful applicants display a commitment to volunteerism, a record of academic excellence, and an interest in pursuing a career in advertising or marketing.

Occupational Health and Safety Management

Dick Martin Scholarship Award

Value: $3,000
Available: 1
Deadline: January 31

Available to any student enrolled, either full-time or part-time, in an occupational health and safety related course or program leading to an occupational health and safety certificate, diploma or degree at an accredited college or university in Canada. Programs include mine safety, occupational or industrial health and safety, industrial hygiene, safety management or other related safety degree program.

The Tim Hickman Memorial Health and Safety Scholarship

Value: $3,000
Available: 1
Deadline: January 31

Open to all persons currently enrolled full time in an occupational and or public health and safety-related program at a college or university. This may include occupational safety/health/hygiene, occupational/physical therapy, nursing, medicine, emergency services or other related fields.  About Tim Hickman.

 

Pedorthics

Howard Feigel Memorial Award

Value: $1,000
Available: 1
Deadline: September 30th  

Awarded to a full-time student in the Diploma in Pedorthics based on academic achievement.

The Pedorthic Practicum Bursary

Value: $2000
Available: Up to 5
Deadline: September 30th  

Awarded to deserving students who are enrolled in the Diploma in Pedorthics program at Western Continuing Studies, and are relocating to participate in one of three practicums. This bursary is intended to provide financial support for students who would like to gain Pedorthic experience in another city or province.

 

Required
