Western selects Brightspace as next Learning Management System

The selection of Brightspace represents a significant investment by Western to enrich the future of teaching and learning, as well as support and enable strategic growth for more than 40,000 learners and thousands of instructors and staff.  

Western is dedicated to supporting you throughout the transition process. More information on the implementation and migration plan will be available over the coming weeks and months, with the new OWL expected to take flight in Spring 2024.

OWL Migration Project - March 16

New LMS at Western

We are now in the final stages of the Request for Proposal process to select a new LMS.

We would like to provide clear communication to you as instructors that the current version of OWL will continue to be available for course delivery for Summer 2023 and for the 2023/2024 Fall/Winter Term (September – April). 

While we are targeting the system to be available for Western to begin migrating courses to the new LMS starting in September 2023, there will be no requirement to run courses in the new LMS for Summer 2023 or Fall 2023 (including full year courses).

We look forward to sharing additional details about the OWL Migration Plan after the official selection of the new LMS.  

COVID-19 Campus Update - February 6

Masking Update

Effective February 6, 2023, Western will move from mandating masks in instructional spaces to strongly encouraging masks in crowded indoor spaces like large classes. This move is aligned with the advice of public health. Leaders of research labs will make health and safety decisions based on the appropriate protocols for their lab environment.
