This program is designed for Registered Nurses in Ontario across all practice settings who seek to enhance their knowledge and ability in primary care nursing practice. Emphasis is placed on patient‑centered, coordinated care that supports comprehensive primary health care delivery.

Topics include foundational approaches to promote individual and family health and wellness across the lifespan, management of chronic diseases, strategies to support preventative health, and the evolving role of the Registered Nurse within interprofessional teams.

What to Expect

This is an asynchronous self-directed course; you will engage online with your instructor through the Western Continuing Studies learning management system. Course instructors are Primary Care Nurse Practitioners with more than 15 years of clinical experience who continue to practice in primary care settings.

The course is designed for Registered Nurses in Ontario (either eligible for a temporary class or permanent) or new nursing program graduates who have completed a BScN degree and are awaiting licensure.

Tuition is $1000 to be paid when enrolling, and upon successful completion of the course, students will be reimbursed the full tuition amount.

Course requirements are designed to take approximately 5–6 hours per week, with learners completing two modules weekly. Plan to log into your course regularly throughout the week, as the learning activities are paced to allow you to do parts of the modules at your own pace during each week.

Real-time Learning

There are optional weekly drop-in classes on Mondays at 7:00pm ET online where the faculty will be available to answer questions about the previous week's content.
