Recognizing, assessing and communicating risk is a core skill for all professionals responding to intimate partner violence. In this interactive course, participants will distinguish between risk screening and assessment, understand the value of using validated tools, and practice skills for using risk assessment to guide safety planning and risk management.

What You Will Learn

  • Describe the difference between screening and risk assessment;  
  • Identify key static and dynamic factors which contribute to risk; 
  • Identify how good risk assessment informs safety planning and risk management; 
  • Apply this learning to case studies to analyze and discuss static and dynamic risk factors and create a risk management strategy, which includes identifying important resources required.

What to Expect

This is an interactive course; you will engage online with your class and instructor through our online learning management system. Plan to log into your course regularly throughout the week. Students will have the opportunity to practice the skills they have learned in an interview with a simulated client.

Real-time Learning

There are three live Zoom sessions scheduled for this course.

February18 - 1:00pm - 4:00pm ET
February 25 or February 26 - 9:00 - 4:00pm ET (a 30 minute Zoom sesion time will be assigned to you on one of these two dates)
March 4 - 1:00pm - 4:00pm ET

Completion Requirements

This is a graded course where a complete or incomplete will be issued. Evaluation will be based on participation and completion of course activities. Attendance in the live Zoom sessions are mandatory.
